Macrovision Announces SoftSummit 2003 Conference on Software Pricing, Purchasing and Licensing.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. July 15, 2003, Macrovision Corporation (Nasdaq: MVSN), announced today that SoftSummit™ 2003, the leading annual forum for software business executives, publishers and purchasers, will be held October 6-10 in San Jose, California. Formerly called EC4S, SoftSummit’s new name reflects the conference’s expanded focus on latest trends and best practices in software pricing, purchasing and licensing.

"Last year’s event attracted record attendance and confirmed the need for an open forum for software vendors and their customers to discuss best business practices,” said Bill Krepick, Macrovision CEO. "SoftSummit provides this much-anticipated forum to share business strategies and technologies that enable successful software pricing, purchasing and licensing.”

"The software licensing arena has exploded over the past year,” said Steve McHale, VP Research at IDC Corporation. "Controversial issues around product activation, intellectual property protection and the sometimes conflicting needs and expectations of software vendors and customers have had a major impact on the software industry. SoftSummit will address innovative approaches and solutions to these issues, for both publishers and consumers, while also bringing key trends like utility-model computing and on-demand computing to the forefront.”

Customized session tracks at SoftSummit 2003 for software executives from both the vendor and corporate worlds will discuss details of leading-edge solutions that attendees can use to improve their businesses, immediately. Software vendors will learn how to optimally price, package and license their software for maximum profitability while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction. Corporate purchasers will discover enhanced ROI through efficient management of software spending and allocation. Sessions will cover important and timely topics such as: New Pricing and Licensing Models, Software-as-a-Service, On-Demand Computing, Utility-Model Computing, Software Compliance & Piracy, and the "do’s & don’ts” of rolling out Software Activation.

Building on last year’s successful presentations from industry leaders and groups like Intel, BearingPoint, SIIA, IDC, Rational and Autodesk, the SoftSummit 2003 conference will highlight keynote presentations by industry experts in software licensing management and digital rights management, user and vendor panels, best practices tracks, case study and implementation presentations, and training sessions.

Macrovision is now accepting submissions for speaking opportunities at SoftSummit 2003. Sponsorships are also available. The early bird registration discount is available through September 15, 2003.
