MEDIA ALERT: Software Survey Indicates ISV's And Their Enterprise Customers Are Overdue For A Heart-to-Heart

WHAT: Fourth Annual Software Pricing and Licensing Survey Results
WHEN: November 13, 2007
WHERE: SoftSummit 2007, Hyatt Regency, Santa Clara, CA

As licensing and, consequently, pricing models have shifted with the appearance of new technologies, one would expect that there would be more flexible ways to meet customer needs, but this year's Software Pricing and Licensing Survey results reveal otherwise.

In 2007, ISVs migrated away from more flexible offerings and opted for models that promised more steady revenue streams, such as the subscription model. Of the vendors that did realize the need for a more flexible pricing and licensing strategy, only 37 percent were motivated to make the change in order to improve relationships with their customers.

The result: a satisfaction gap. This parallelism has remained constant during the last three years, despite the licensing and pricing flexibility made available by new technologies. The gap presents an opportunity for ISVs to monetize from prioritizing customer satisfaction and realigning their offerings to customer preferences.

Additional results and analysis will be presented at the upcoming SoftSummit conference taking place this week. The complete results can be found online at http://www.softsummit.com/2007_software_pricing_licensing_report.shtml.

This year's Software Pricing and Licensing Survey involved 463 participants and was commissioned by Macrovision®, SoftSummit, CELUG, EDA Consortium™ and ECPweb. The intent of the survey is to reveal valuable data and insight into how software vendors and enterprises view pricing and licensing issues and to summarize both practices that are in use today and those that will be instituted in the coming years.
